Wave Picking - User Role

Service Groups

This allows users to assign "Carrier Services" that are integrated with the TMS to a "Service Group". One "Service Group" can contain "Services" from multiple "Carriers".

For example, a user can create a Service Group called "Express" and then assign all the express services from different carriers to this Service Group.

This will allow you to group dispatches by service group for wave picking.

• On the menu select Logistics → Wave Picking → Service Groups.

• This will list all existing service groups.

• To add a new Service Group, click on the "Create New" button.

• To update an existing Service Group, click on the "Edit" grid command.

• To delete an unused Service Group, click on the "Delete" grid command.

• To assign carrier services to an existing Service Group, click on the "Assign Services" grid command.
  
  
  

Open

Create New Service Group

• On the menu select Logistics → Wave Picking → Service Groups.

• To add a new Service Group, click on the "Create New" button.

• Enter the "Service Group Code" to identify this new Service Group. ("Service Group Code" needs to be unique.)

• Enter the "Service Group Name" to describe this new Service Group.

• Click the "Save" button to create this new Service Group.
  
  
  

Open

Edit Service Group

• On the menu select Logistics → Wave Picking → Service Groups.

• To update an existing Service Group, click on the "Edit" grid command.

• Enter the "Service Group Code" to identify this Service Group. ("Service Group Code" needs to be unique.)

• Enter the "Service Group Name" to describe this Service Group.

• Click the "Save" button to update this Service Group.

Delete Service Group

• On the menu select Logistics → Wave Picking → Service Groups.

• To delete an unused Service Group, click on the "Delete" grid command.

• Click "OK" to confirm the deletion.

Assign Services to Service Group

• On the menu select Logistics → Wave Picking → Service Groups.

• To assign carrier services to an existing Service Group, click on the "Assign Services" grid command.

• The grid on the left will list all "Carrier Services" that are NOT currently assigned to this "Service group".  

• The grid on the right will list all "Carrier Services" currently assigned to this "Service group". 

• Both grids can be filtered by "Carrier Name" and "Service Name".

• To add "Carrier Services" to this "Service Group", select the services in the "Services not in the Service Group" grid and then click the "Add" button below the grid.

• To remove "Carrier Services" from this "Service Group", select the services in the "Services in the Service Group" grid and then click the "Remove" button below the grid.

Non Integrated Carrier Groups

This allows users to assign carriers that are not integrated with the TMS to a "Non Integrated Carrier Group". One carrier can be assigned to multiple  "Non Integrated Carrier Groups".

This will allow you to group dispatches by "Non Integrated Carrier Groups" for wave picking.

• On the menu select Logistics → Wave Picking → Non Integrated Carrier Groups.

• This will list all existing Non Integrated Carrier Groups.

• To add a new Group, click on the "Create New" button.

• To update an existing Group, click on the "Edit" grid command.

• To delete an unused Group, click on the "Delete" grid command.

• To assign carriers to an existing Group, click on the "Assign Carriers" grid command.

Create New Non Integrated Carrier Group

• On the menu select Logistics → Wave Picking → Non Integrated Carrier Groups.

• To add a new Group, click on the "Create New" button.

• Enter the "NI Carrier Group Code" to identify this new Group. ("NI Carrier Group Code" needs to be unique.)

• Enter the "NI Carrier Group Name" to describe this new Group.

• Click the "Save" button to create this new Group.

Edit Non Integrated Carrier Group

• On the menu select Logistics → Wave Picking → Non Integrated Carrier Groups.

• To update an existing Group, click on the "Edit" grid command.

• Enter the "NI Carrier Group Code" to identify this Group. ("NI Carrier Group Code" needs to be unique.)

• Enter the "NI Carrier Group Name" to describe this Group.

• Click the "Save" button to update this Group.

Delete Non Integrated Carrier Group

• On the menu select Logistics → Wave Picking → Non Integrated Carrier Groups.

• To delete an unused Group, click on the "Delete" grid command.

• Click "OK" to confirm the deletion.

Assign Carriers to Non Integrated Carrier Group

• On the menu select Logistics → Wave Picking → Non Integrated Carrier Groups.

• To assign carriers to an existing group, click on the "Assign Carriers" grid command.

• The grid on the left will list all carriers that are NOT currently assigned to this group.  

• The grid on the right will list all carriers currently assigned to this group. 

• Both grids can be filtered by carrier.

• To add carriers to this group, select the carriers and then click the "Add" button below the grid.

• To remove carriers from this group, select the carriers and then click the "Remove" button below the grid.

Wave Configurations

• On the menu select Logistics → Wave Picking → Wave Configurations.

• This will list all existing Wave Configurations in the DC.

• This provides a global overview of all the Wave Configurations in the DC per Client.

• The user can filter this information as required and export this data.
  
  

• To compare multiple wave configurations, select the wave configurations in the grid and the click the "Show Highlighted" option.

• This will display your selections only and allow you to easily compare wave configurations.

• Click the "Show All" option to view all the wave configurations again.

Client Wave Configurations

• On the menu select Logistics → Wave Picking → Client Wave Configurations.

• Select a Client from the drop down.

• This will list all the current wave configurations for the selected client in "Sequence" order.

• You can easily change the sequence of a wave configuration by using the drag and drop feature and moving a wave configuration up and down in the grid.

• If a configuration is in use with a wave, the record will be "Edit Locked" an no changes can be made.
  
  

Create New Wave Configuration

• On the menu select Logistics → Wave Picking → Client Wave Configurations.

• Select a Client from the drop down

• Click on the "Create New" button.

• Enter the "Configuration Code" to identify this new Wave Configuration. ("Configuration Code" needs to be unique.)

• Enter the "Description" to describe this new Wave Configuration.

• Enter the "Dispatches Per Wave" value. Each wave holds a defined number of dispatches per wave, so each wave should have a purpose designed trolley or picking receptacle to match the picking requirement.

• Select the "Service Group Name". This is optional and will allow users to group dispatches by service group for wave picking.

• Select the "Non Standard Requirement" option. This is optional and will allow users to group dispatches that hold a ‘Non-standard Requirement’ (NSR), such as engraving.

• Select the "NI Carrier Group Name". This is optional and will allow users to group dispatches by the non integrated carrier group for wave picking.

• Enter the "Total Units In Dispatch Min". This is optional and will allow users to group dispatches by total units. This is the minimum number of units in a dispatch to be included in the wave.

• Enter the "Total Units In Dispatch Max". This is optional and will allow users to group dispatches by total units. This is the maximum number of units in a dispatch to be included in the wave.

• Enter the "No of Lines In Dispatch Min". This is optional and will allow users to group dispatches by number of lines. This is the minimum number of lines in a dispatch to be included in the wave.

• Enter the "No of Lines In Dispatch Max". This is optional and will allow users to group dispatches by number of lines. This is the maximum number of lines in a dispatch to be included in the wave.

• Set "Cluster Pick" to Yes or No. When setting "Cluster Pick" to Yes, it will automatically set:

  • "Total Units in Dispatch Min" = 1

  • "Total Units In Dispatch Max" = 1

  • "No of Lines In Dispatch Min" = 1

  • "No of Lines In Dispatch Max" = 1

• On Standard Wave Picking, Wave changes in a Pick release are based on "Dispatches Per Wave" set in the Wave Configuration.

• For Cluster Picking, Wave changes in a Pick release are based on "Dispatches Per Wave" but will also change if the SKU changes.

  • We need to keep the products separate in the pick bins otherwise there would need to be a sortation process with the paperwork at the pack benches.

• Cluster Picking allows users to multi pick the same SKU in one operation on the mobile device. When using Cluster Picking, the user does NOT need to scan the Plate Number  E.G
  
  
  
  
  

• Set "Reverse Sort Order" to Yes or No. Setting "Reverse Sort Order" to Yes will enable stock to be allocated in reverse location sort order. So instead of allocating stock from lowest sort order to highest sort order, it will now allocate stock from highest sort order to lowest sort order.

• Select "Order Type". This is optional and will allow users to group dispatches by the type of order.

• Set "Star" to Yes / No / Not Set. 

  • Star = "Yes" will only include dispatches that have been marked with a star AND match the other properties set within the current configuration.

  • Star = "No" will only include dispatches that have NOT been marked with a star AND match the other properties set within the current configuration

  • If "Star" is not set then both starred and unstarred dispatches will be included that match the properties set within the current configuration.

• Set the “Build Kit” to Yes / No / Not Set. 

  • Build Kit = "Yes" will only include dispatches that have kits to be built on the fly AND match the other properties set within the current configuration.

  • Build Kit = "No" will only include dispatches that have NO kits to be built on the fly AND match the other properties set within the current configuration

  • If "Build Kit" is not set then dispatches will be included irrespective of if they contain kits to be built on the fly or not.

• Click the "Save" button to create this new Wave Configuration.

Edit Wave Configuration

• On the menu select Logistics → Wave Picking → Client Wave Configurations.

• Select a Client from the drop down.

• To update an existing Wave Configuration, click on the "Edit" grid command.

Wave Configuration Zones

• This will allow you to group dispatches by zones for wave picking.

• On the menu select Logistics → Wave Picking → Client Wave Configurations.

• Select a Client from the drop down

• To view the zones used for a Wave Configuration, click on the "Zones" grid command.

• This will list all the current zones for the selected Wave Configuration in "Sequence" order.

• You can easily change the sequence of zones within a Wave Configuration by using the drag and drop feature and moving a zone up and down in the grid.

• If a configuration is in use with a wave, the record will be "Edit Locked" an no changes can be made.

Create New Wave Configuration Zone

• In order to group dispatches by zones for wave picking, you need to add zones to a wave configuration.

• On the menu select Logistics → Wave Picking → Client Wave Configurations.

• Select a Client from the drop down

• To view the zones used for a Wave Configuration, click on the "Zones" grid command.

• Click on the "Create New" button.

• Select a Zone from the drop down.

• If "Must Include" is set to "Yes", then for a dispatch to qualify it must have at least one pick from this zone.

• Click the "Save" button to add this Zone to this Wave Configuration.

• You can easily change the sequence of this new zone within a Wave Configuration by using the drag and drop feature and moving a zone up and down in the "Wave Configuration Zones" grid.

Edit Wave Configuration Zone

• On the menu select Logistics → Wave Picking → Client Wave Configurations.

• Select a Client from the drop down

• To view the zones used for a Wave Configuration, click on the "Zones" grid command.

• To update an existing Wave Configuration Zone, click on the "Edit" grid command.

• If "Must Include" is set to "Yes", then for a dispatch to qualify it must have at least one pick from this zone.

• Click the "Save" button to update this Wave Configuration Zone.

Delete Wave Configuration Zone

• On the menu select Logistics → Wave Picking → Client Wave Configurations.

• Select a Client from the drop down.

• To view the zones used for a Wave Configuration, click on the "Zones" grid command.

• To delete a zone from the Wave Configuration, click on the "Delete" grid command.

• Click "OK" to confirm the deletion.

Pick Release

Pick Waves are constructed by sequencing the requested SKU’s and quantities in one of two selectable ways:

• SKU Sequence
  This method maximises efficiencies by grouping and prioritising SKU’s with most demand. 

• Date Sequence
  Creating waves using SKU sequence can, if the dispatch volumes are high and the operation is struggling to fulfil, leave dispatches holding SKU’s with the least demand waiting. These dispatches are subject to the same SLA, so to combat this issue waves can be built using the dispatch create date/time. The dispatches would be selected in this sequence, but you would still pick to a plate and avoid the inefficiencies of order picking.

• On the menu select Logistics → Wave Picking → Pick Release

• Select a Client from the drop down.

• This will list all the existing wave configurations for the selected client in sequence order.

• Select the release method. The release method controls the sequencing of the dispatches for selection. Increased efficiencies are obtained from the SKU release method. Date release method ensures that older dispatches will not be ignored if the pool cannot be cleared for the day. 

• Enter the maximum number of dispatches for this pick release.

• Select the Wave Configuration you want to release.

Click the "Preview" button to view what dispatches will be included in the Wave based on the current selection.

Click the "Create" button. A confirmation message will be displayed:

Click the "OK" button to create the pick waves and allocate the stock. 

Print All
Click the "Print All button" button to print all the Wave Summary Sheets, Dispatch Notes and Non Standard Requirements for the newly created waves. If the user is using the "Print Server" then these documents will automatically be sent to the print server.

Print Wave Summary Sheets
Click the "Print Wave Summary Sheets" button to print all the Wave Summary Sheets for the newly created waves. If the user is using the "Print Server" then these documents will automatically be sent to the print server.

Print Dispatch Notes
Click the "Print Dispatch Notes" button to print all the Dispatch Notes for the newly created waves. If the user is using the "Print Server" then these documents will automatically be sent to the print server.

Print Non Standard Requirements
Click the "Print Non Standard Requirements" button to print all the Non Standard Requirements (E.G Engraving) for the newly created waves. If the user is using the "Print Server" then these documents will automatically be sent to the print server.

The "Wave No" and "Plate ID" will be displayed at the bottom of each dispatch note:

Pick Release by Configuration

If a user knows the wave configuration that needs to be released, they can use the "Pick Release by Configuration" module. This will be faster than the "Pick Release" module in that it will only load a single wave configuration that is selected by the user rather than all the wave configurations.

• On the menu select Logistics → Wave Picking → Pick Release by Configuration.

• Select the wave configuration in the "Configuration" drop down.

• Select the release method. The release method controls the sequencing of the dispatches for selection. Increased efficiencies are obtained from the SKU release method. Date release method ensures that older dispatches will not be ignored if the pool cannot be cleared for the day. 

• Enter the maximum number of dispatches for this pick release.

Print Non Standard Requirements
Click the "Print Non Standard Requirements" button to print all the Non Standard Requirements (E.G Engraving) for the newly created waves. If the user is using the "Print Server" then these documents will automatically be sent to the print server.

Pick Release History

• On the menu select Logistics → Wave Picking → Pick Release History

• The "All" tab will display the latest pick releases in the DC.

• The "Active" tab will display the pick releases where the waves for a pick release are still active.

• The "Complete" tab will display the pick releases where all the waves for a pick release have been completed.

• The "Closed" tab will display the pick releases where all the waves for a pick release have been closed using the "Close Wave" process.

• Click the "Expand / Collapse" grid command to view the "Waves" for the selected Pick Release.

Print All
Click the "Print All button" button to print all the Wave Summary Sheets, Dispatch Notes and Non Standard Requirements for the selected Pick Release. If the user is using the "Print Server" then these documents will automatically be sent to the print server.

Print Wave Summary Sheets
Click the "Print Wave Summary Sheets" button to print all the Wave Summary Sheets for the selected Pick Release. If the user is using the "Print Server" then these documents will automatically be sent to the print server.

Print Dispatch Notes
Click the "Print Dispatch Notes" button to print all the Dispatch Notes for the selected Pick Release. If the user is using the "Print Server" then these documents will automatically be sent to the print server.

Print Non Standard Requirements
Click the "Print Non Standard Requirements" button to print all the Non Standard Requirements (E.G Engraving) for the selected Pick Release. If the user is using the "Print Server" then these documents will automatically be sent to the print server.

Wave History

• On the menu select Logistics → Wave Picking → Wave History

• The "All" tab will display the latest waves in the DC.

• The "Active" tab will display the all waves that are still active.

• The "Complete" tab will display all the waves have been completed.

• The "Closed" tab will display all the waves that have been closed using the "Close Wave" process.

Print All
Click the "Print All button" button to print all the Wave Summary Sheet, Dispatch Notes and Non Standard Requirements for the selected Wave. If the user is using the "Print Server" then these documents will automatically be sent to the print server.

Print Wave Summary Sheet
Click the "Print Wave Summary Sheet" button to print the Wave Summary Sheet for the selected Wave. If the user is using the "Print Server" then this document will automatically be sent to the print server.

Print Dispatch Notes
Click the "Print Dispatch Notes" button to print all the Dispatch Notes for the selected Wave. If the user is using the "Print Server" then these documents will automatically be sent to the print server.

Print Non Standard Requirements
Click the "Print Non Standard Requirements" button to print all the Non Standard Requirements (E.G Engraving) for the selected Wave. If the user is using the "Print Server" then these documents will automatically be sent to the print server.

Allocations

• Click the "Allocations" grid command to view the stock allocations for the selected wave.

• This will provide detailed information on the Wave including what items have been picked, skipped and short shipped.

• Click the "Expand / Collapse" grid command to view detailed pick information for the allocated line.

Wave Summary

• On the menu select Logistics → Wave Picking → Wave Summary.

• This will provide a summary of all the waves that have been generated.

• The filters above the grid will assist users in identifying what wave a dispatch or sales order is in.

Print Plate Numbers

• On the menu select Logistics → Wave Picking → Print Plate Numbers

• Enter the "Starting Plate Number". 

• Enter the "Number of Labels" to generate.

• Enter the "Prefix" to appear before the plate number. This needs to be zero's.

• If "Combined Labels" is set to "Yes", then the labels will be combined and printed on the document printer.

• If "Combined Labels" is set to "No", then the labels will printed individually on the label printer.

• Click the "Print" button to generate the plate numbers.

• If the user is not setup to use the Print Server, the plate numbers will be displayed on the screen and the user can print these.

• To use the Print Server to print plate numbers, open the "Admin → Print Server → Machine Settings".

• Enter a Machine Name, Document Printer and Label Printer and then click the "Update" button.

• On the menu select Logistics → Wave Picking → Print Plate Numbers

• The additional fields "Machine Name", "Document Printer" and "Label Printer" will be displayed to indicate the "Print Server is in use".

• Clicking the "Print" button will automatically send the Plate Numbers generated to the Print Server.

Mobile - Wave Picking

Tap the "Wave Picking" menu option on the mobile device.

Scan the wave barcode to take you directly to the wave to be picked.

This barcode can be found on the Wave Summary Sheet.

The user also has the option to select the wave to pick by selecting a client and clicking the "Load Waves" button. 

This will list all the waves that can be picked for this client. The user can click the "Select" button to start the Pick process.

The user will be directed to the location. If "Pick by Licence Plate" is set to "No" for this client, then the user will pick by scanning the SKU (Product Code or EAN) .

The user needs to scan the Location, SKU, Plate Number, enter the quantity to pick and then tap the "Pick" button.

Only if the location to pick from contains multiple licence plates for the same SKU, will the user will be asked to scan the licence plate to pick from.

If "Pick by Licence Plate" is set to "Yes" for this client, then the user will pick by scanning the Licence Plate.

If the user is directed to a location and the "Qty to Pick" is greater than the physical stock available in that location, then the user will need to click the "Skip" button. 

The user will be presented with a confirmation message to ensure they did not click the "Skip" button my mistake.

When the user taps the "OK" button on the confirmation message, the system will suspend the licence plate and automatically attempt to find alternative locations for the stock. If alternative locations are found, then these will be added as new records to pick at the end of this wave and the user will be directed to the next line in the wave. If insufficient stock can be found, then a message will be displayed "Insufficient Inventory - This line will be short shipped". Clicking the "Short Ship" button will mark this record as short shipped and this will need to be reviewed when the wave is closed.

When the Wave is fully completed, a "Wave Complete" message will be displayed and the user can start processing the next wave.

Close Wave

• On the menu select Logistics → Wave Picking → Close Wave.

• This will display all the waves have been completed.

Close

• To close a wave, select a wave from the list and click the "Close" button.

• Click "OK" on the confirmation message to close the wave.

Allocations

• Click the "Allocations" grid command to view the stock allocations for the selected wave.

• This will provide detailed information on the Wave including what items have been picked, skipped and short shipped.

• Click the "Expand / Collapse" grid command to view detailed pick information for the allocated line.

Short Shipped Lines

• Click the "Short Shipped Lines" grid command to view the lines that have been short shipped for the selected wave.

• Click the "Find Stock" grid command to attempt to locate stock for lines that were short shipped.

• Click the "OK" button on the confirmation message that appears.

• If stock is found, this will be added as new line(s) to the wave to pick. The status of wave will change from "Complete" back to "Active" as this stock will now need to be picked.

Suspended Licence Plates

• On the menu select Logistics → Wave Picking → Suspended Licence Plates.

• This will display all the licence plates that have been suspended when the user skips a pick on the mobile device.

• A user can select multiple licence plates and click the "Unsuspend" button below the grid to make the licence plates active again. 

Wave Picking Access

• On the menu select Logistics → Wave Picking → Wave Picking Access.

• This will display all the clients that have been enabled to use wave picking and if they have been enabled to use "Pick by Licence Plate" when picking on the mobile device.

• You can still setup wave configurations and preview these configurations for Clients that have NOT being setup to use wave picking.

• You will only be able to create waves and pick these if a client is enabled to use wave picking.

Create New Wave Picking Access

• On the menu select Logistics → Wave Picking → Wave Picking Access.

• Click on the "Create New" button.

• Select the client you want to enable to use wave picking from the drop down menu.

• "Pick by Licence Plate" should only be set to "Yes" if the client's products cannot be scanned by SKU (Product Code or EAN).

• Click the "Save" button.

Edit Wave Picking Access

• On the menu select Logistics → Wave Picking → Wave Picking Access.

• Click on the "Edit" grid command.

• "Pick by Licence Plate" should only be set to "Yes" if the client's products cannot be scanned by SKU (Product Code or EAN).

• Click the "Save" button.

Delete Wave Picking Access

• On the menu select Logistics → Wave Picking → Wave Picking Access.

• To remove a client's access to wave picking, click on the "Delete" grid command.

• Click "OK" to confirm the deletion.

Star Dispatches

• On the menu select Logistics → Wave Picking → Star Dispatches

• This will allow users to manually select specific dispatches by marking them with a star.

• If users need to urgently get specific dispatches into a wave, they can use this star feature in conjunction with wave configurations to do this.

• Client Wave Configurations

• On the menu select Logistics → Wave Picking →  Client Wave Configurations

• Select a Client

• Click the "Create New" button OR "Edit" grid command. 

• This will allow you to specify how to use dispatches marked with a "Star" within a wave configuration to group dispatches into a wave. 
  
  
  

• Star = "Yes" will only include dispatches that have been marked with a star AND match the other properties set within the current configuration.

• Star = "No" will only include dispatches that have NOT been marked with a star AND match the other properties set within the current configuration.

• If "Star" is not set then both starred and unstarred dispatches will be included that match the properties set within the current configuration.
  
  
  

• Pick Release

• On the menu select Logistics → Wave Picking →  Pick Release

• Select a client

• Select a Wave configuration where you have used a Star configuration

• Dispatches will be released in the wave based on how the configuration was setup with the Star feature.

Suspended Licence Plates - Same SKU Example

• User creates 2 waves for same SKU and the orders have been allocated for the same location

• User attempts to pick the item from Wave 1 but notices the licence plate is empty and click skip which then suspend the licence plate.

• When the user attempts to pick the item from Wave 2, they will be presented with the following:

When the user clicks the “Skip” button it will attempt to locate stock for this item elsewhere in the warehouse.
